"Edward Sexton made-to-measure is not a compromise; it is a fusion of handcrafted and cutting edge tailoring techniques"
Dominic Sebag-Montefiore
Dominic Sebag-Montefiore joined Edward Sexton to create a remarkable made to measure garment. Dominic worked as an tailoring apprentice with Maurice Sedwell on Savile Row and then in 2007 went on to work with Edward Sexton.
Dominic identified a problem – many men want to dress well but are unwilling to stretch their budget to acquire a fully hand-tailored bespoke suit. Instead people wear expensive off-the-peg designer suits which often do not fit well, while others take the trouble to have their suits made by affordable suit-making companies. "I see so many awful suits that are made, with a clear lack of understanding of balance, proportion and finesse. These suits do not justify the considerable prices paid for them. They are made by companies that run as businesses by people who lack practical experience whereas true bespoke tailors work as artisans and have learned the art of suit-making over years from master-craftsman. I wanted to create an alternative and introduce a service par excellence - at less than half the price of truly bespoke hand-made suits - but administered exclusively by these highly experienced bespoke tailors.
"Edward and I have worked tirelessly with our workshop in England, translating Edwards refined pattern to get the perfect balance between hand tailoring and the latest industrial techniques to be able to produce a truly spectacular modern garment – with all the style of our hand-made bespoke.
"We have been delighted to discover that indeed it is possible to capture so much of the bespoke suit in our made-to-measure."
The Process
"We don’t pretend it is bespoke, but it is as close as you can get".
During a consultation we find out what the customer wants from their suit and how they plan to wear it. We advise the client on a style to suit their lifestyle and proportions, and help them to select from our plethora of cloth using our experience of working with these cloths. Customers are then fitted into our unique fitting samples, measurements are taken and amendments made to the pattern. The pattern is then sent to our workshop along with the client’s chosen cloth. 4-6 weeks later the fitting is ready, any necessary adjustments are made at this stage by our in house team of bespoke tailors. The suit will be ready for a final try on and collection shortly after the fitting.
